Energy Minister engages WAPCo on gas-to-power policy
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, has held high-level discussions with the West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) to review the company’s performance in 2025 and map out strategic priorities for 2026.
The engagement focused on WAPCo’s operational achievements over the past year, which the Minister noted have reinforced the company’s critical role in ensuring regional energy security across West Africa.
Dr. Jinapor emphasised that under Ghana’s Gas-to-Power Policy, natural gas remains a cornerstone of the country’s power generation mix.
He stressed that sustained collaboration with WAPCo is therefore essential to optimising gas supply capacity, ensuring reliability, and supporting future infrastructure expansion to meet growing energy demand.
According to the Minister, strengthening partnerships with key regional energy stakeholders such as WAPCo aligns with the government’s broader agenda to deliver a secure, efficient and sustainable energy transition, while maintaining affordable power for households and industry.
Officials of WAPCo, on their part, reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining high operational standards and working closely with the Ministry to support Ghana’s energy and green transition goals.
The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition to deepen regional cooperation and strengthen the resilience of Ghana’s energy supply system.
