Energy Ministry directs ECG to probe 'Usain Bolt' prepaid metres
The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has directed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to investigate widespread complaints from consumers over the unusually fast depletion of prepaid electricity credits.
In a post on X, the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Richmond Rockson, said the Ministry has taken note of growing concerns raised by customers across the country regarding their prepaid meters running like Usain Bolt.
He disclosed that the sector Minister, John Abdulai Jinapor, has instructed ECG to conduct a thorough probe into the matter and submit a report within seven days to inform further action.
“The Minister of Energy and Green Transition Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor has taken notice of these complaints and has directed ECG to investigate and provide a report to him within 7 days for further action,” the statement said.
The directive is expected to provide clarity on the issue and address consumer concerns about electricity billing and metering systems nationwide.
