The Member of Parliament (MP) for Garu, Dr Thomas Anaba, has called on all factions in the long-standing Bawku conflict to wholeheartedly accept the final ruling of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as the conclusive step in the decades-old mediation process.

The Asantehene is expected to deliver his final decision today, Monday, December 1, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace, Kumasi, Ashanti Region.

Dr Anaba expressed deep concern over the heavy toll the conflict had taken on the people of Bawku — ranging from loss of lives to destruction of property and livelihoods. He stressed that peace remained the only viable path for the area’s future.

Speaking to Class News, he urged all stakeholders to receive the Asantehene’s pronouncement in good faith and fully commit to rebuilding harmony in the enclave.

According to him, unity and acceptance of the ruling were crucial for sustainable development.

“There’s not much to expect but peace in Bawku. We have spent a whole lot of years, a lot of resources, time wasted, lives lost, and businesses destroyed because of this conflict,” he said.

Dr Anaba commended successive governments for entrusting the mediation to the Asantehene, noting that both former President Nana Akufo-Addo and President John Mahama recognised his capacity to guide the process to a peaceful conclusion.

“He has handled it gently, step by step, and finally brought us to this point,” he added.

The MP expressed hope that the Asantehene’s ruling would mark a new chapter for Bawku.

“What we are expecting is that his pronouncement will bring peace, so the government will take his recommendations and everybody will accept their implementation to the letter. We will all be happy with ourselves and live harmoniously in Bawku because we are already one people,” he said.

Dr Anaba emphasised that the conflict stemmed from a longstanding misunderstanding over ownership, not fundamental differences among the people.

He prayed for a peaceful and lasting resolution that would restore Bawku to its former status as a hub of stability, commerce, and growth.
