The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has reacted to the "disturbing video circulating on social media in which a man reported to be a landlord is seen violently assaulting a woman, alleged to be his wife," condemning the act.

The Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey-led ministry asserted that "no individual has the right to subject another person to any form of abuse under any circumstances".

"We strongly condemn this barbaric act in its strongest terms. This act infringes on the victims' rights, and it's highly punishable by law," the ministry emphasised in its statement.

The statement revealed Dr Momo Lartey had also reached out to the Ghana Police Service (GPS) to "ensure that a thorough investigation is conducted and justice is served".

MoGSCP urged eyewitnesses who had "vital information to assist law enforcement agencies immediately".

"Domestic and sexual based violence is a national concern, and therefore, we urge the public to report such incidents as soon as possible," the ministry encouraged.

MoGSCP reaffirmed their commitment to collaborating with all relevant stakeholders in ensuring that perpetrators of domestic violence faced the full rigours of the law.

The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection's Helpline of Hope call centre can be reached on 0800-800-800 or 0800-900-900, and Domestic Violence Call Centre on 0800-111-222.

In the viral video, a man was seen beating a woman who wore no clothes with sticks, her pleas for mercy falling on deaf ears.
