The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced the deployment of new security screening equipment at the passenger screening checkpoints in Terminals 2 and 3 of Accra International Airport.

According to a public notice issued by the company, the installation of the new state-of-the-art equipment is aimed at enhancing aviation security screening while improving the passenger experience.

Under the new system, passengers will no longer be required to remove laptops and other large electronic devices from their cabin baggage during security screening.

Passengers will also be allowed to keep their shoes and belts on while passing through security checkpoints, unless additional screening is required during security profiling.

In addition, liquids, aerosols and gels (LAGs) can now remain in passengers' cabin baggage during screening, eliminating the need for separate screening of those items. However, GACL noted that existing security regulations prohibiting liquids, aerosols and gels exceeding 100 millilitres per container remain in force.

The company further stated that a new Automatic Tray Return System has been introduced to enable trays to be returned to passengers more quickly for the repacking of screened items, resulting in faster processing at security checkpoints.

GACL said the migration to the new screening system will be carried out progressively and in phases alongside the existing procedures and equipment.

The company appealed to passengers and stakeholders to cooperate as operations with the new security screening equipment commence in the coming days.
