The Government of Ghana has expressed its condolences to the people of Dagbon following the passing of Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II.

In a statement issued on Monday, July 13, 2026, the government said President John Dramani Mahama extends his deepest sympathies to the Royal Family, the people of Dagbon, and the entire nation during the period of mourning.

The government described Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II as a distinguished traditional ruler whose reign contributed to healing, reconciliation, and lasting peace in Dagbon following years of conflict.

According to the statement, his commitment to unity, stability, and the welfare of his people helped create an environment for development and strengthened collaboration between traditional authorities and government in advancing progress in Dagbon and Ghana.

The government paid tribute to the late Yaa Naa’s leadership and service to the nation, saying his wisdom and dedication to peace would continue to inspire future generations.

“May his soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement said.

The statement was signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Member of Parliament, Spokesperson to the President, and Minister for Government Communications.
