News
Ken Ofori-Atta, businessman and former finance minister

Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, made his first appearance before a United States immigration court in Virginia over issues relating to his immigration status.

The proceedings were largely held in camera, with the public barred from physical attendance. However, limited portions of the hearing were observed virtually before the court continued the session in private.

The immigration court subsequently adjourned the matter to April 27, 2026, for the next hearing.

Mr Ofori-Atta’s court appearance follows his recent detention by U.S. immigration authorities and forms part of ongoing legal processes concerning the legality of his stay in the United States.
