Interior Minister presents 10 pickup vehicles to NACOC to boost anti-drug operations
The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has officially presented 10 Nissan Navara pick-up trucks to the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) to enhance the agency’s capacity to tackle drug trafficking and related criminal activity.
The additional vehicles are expected to strengthen NACOC’s field operations by improving mobility, response speed, and overall operational reach, as drug networks continue to adopt more complex methods across the country.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony on Monday, Mr. Muntaka explained that equipping security agencies with essential logistics remains a key component of the government’s wider agenda to safeguard national security, protect public health, and weaken organised crime.
He reiterated the administration’s resolve to consistently upgrade the tools and resources available to security institutions, noting that effective logistics are critical to ensuring swift action and successful enforcement operations nationwide.
Highlighting emerging trends in the illicit drug trade, the Interior Minister revealed that tramadol now accounts for about 23 per cent of seized pharmaceutical and psychotropic substances, while the remaining 77 per cent comprises a broadening mix of other illicit drugs.
He added that these developments have prompted the Narcotics Control Commission to step up focused anti-drug patrols, particularly during the festive period, as part of efforts to curb the spread and abuse of narcotics.
