Ken Ahigbey raises alarm over alleged grave desecration at Osu Cemetery
A concerned citizen and Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Ken Ashigbey, has raised serious allegations of grave desecration and illegal sale of burial spaces at the Osu Cemetery in the Greater Accra Region, calling on authorities to take immediate action to protect the sanctity of the site.
According to Mr. Ashigbey, some miscreants are allegedly exhuming graves, discarding human remains, and reselling the same burial plots to unsuspecting families who have recently lost loved ones.
He described the situation as deeply disturbing, unfair, and contrary to Ghanaian values and cultural norms.
Mr. Ashigbey expressed dissatisfaction with the management of the Osu Cemetery, urging those in charge to intensify monitoring and supervision to prevent further criminal activities.
He stressed that cemetery managers must be held accountable for ensuring the security and proper management of the burial grounds.
Describing the alleged acts as “unGhanaian,” he called on law enforcement agencies and Kroley Klottey Municipal Assembly (KroMA) to investigate the matter thoroughly and deal decisively with those involved.
He further appealed to families with relatives buried at the Osu Cemetery to visit the graves of their loved ones to confirm their safety, noting that discovering such acts can be emotionally traumatic.
Mr. Ashigbey said he speaks from personal experience, having allegedly encountered such a painful situation himself.
The allegations have sparked public concern and renewed calls for stricter oversight, enhanced security, and reforms in the management of public cemeteries to prevent abuse and preserve the dignity of the dead.
Classfmonline.com can confirm that Osu Cemetry is one of the top-notch public cemeteries in the country, with a grave going for about GHS 5,000 and above.
