Local Gov't Minister welcomes restoration of peace in Sunyani Traditional area
The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has welcomed the restoration of peace in the Sunyani Traditional Area, describing it as a major step toward renewed development and investment in the municipality.
Speaking during a courtesy call by the Sunyani Traditional Council at the Ministry on Thursday, March 5, 2026, the Minister stressed that peace and unity are essential for effective governance and sustainable local development.
Mr. Ibrahim explained that the Ministry played a key role in resolving the long-standing chieftaincy dispute in the area through the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms that combined both traditional and administrative approaches.
According to him, the peaceful resolution of the impasse will create an enabling environment for accelerated development and attract investment to the municipality.
The Minister commended the leadership of the traditional area for prioritising peace and unity, adding that the government remains committed to supporting development initiatives in Sunyani.
Meanwhile, the Paramount Chief of Sunyani, Odeefuor Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, expressed gratitude to John Dramani Mahama, the Minister and the Ministry for their efforts in resolving the dispute and restoring harmony within the traditional area.
