Police warn WASSCE candidates against violence and vandalism after exams
The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has cautioned final-year students preparing to complete the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) on Friday, June 19, 2026, to celebrate responsibly and avoid engaging in unlawful activities.
In a statement, the police urged candidates to remain disciplined and law-abiding after their examinations, warning that acts of violence, vandalism, arson, assault and other criminal conduct could have serious consequences for their future.
The service stressed that students found engaging in such activities would be arrested and prosecuted.
According to the Police, two recent incidents of student violence in the Upper East Region led to the arrest of six students.
At Zebilla Senior High Technical School, two students were arrested in connection with the alleged arson of a teacher’s apartment.
At Bawku Senior High School, four students were arrested for alleged involvement in rioting, assault on school staff and the destruction of school and private property.
The service called on students, parents, guardians and school authorities to work together to promote discipline, respect and peaceful conduct during and after the examination period.
