The Methodist Church Ghana has expressed sympathy to people affected by the flooding in parts of Accra and called on its ministers to provide support to those in need.

In a message signed by the Presiding Bishop, the Most Rev. Prof. Johnson K. Asamoah-Gyadu, the church extended its thoughts and prayers to those affected by the heavy rains.

"Our thoughts and prayers are extended to all who are affected by the deluge in parts of Accra as a result of the rains," the statement said.

The Presiding Bishop prayed for swift assistance for people trapped by the flooding and for those who had lost their belongings.

"I pray that help will come quickly for those trapped in various locations and those who have lost valuables," he stated.

The church also encouraged its ministers to provide material and physical support to affected residents and, where necessary, open church facilities to accommodate people requiring temporary shelter.

"Our ministers are encouraged to provide whatever material and physical support they can mobilise for those needing help, including, where needed, opening up church facilities to house those needing temporary accommodation," the statement said.

The message concluded with a prayer for those affected by the floods, saying, "May the Lord be with His people in their distress."
