The Minority Caucus in Parliament has called for urgent measures to safeguard properties belonging to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), citing concerns about the management and preservation of the state broadcaster's assets.

The issue was raised on the floor of Parliament by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who sought clarification on the status of several GBC properties, particularly parcels of land at Kanda in Accra.

According to him, reports of alleged unauthorised occupation and questionable use of sections of the broadcaster's lands have raised public concern and warrant greater transparency regarding the administration of the properties.

Mr Afenyo-Markin warned that the loss or misuse of GBC's assets could undermine the corporation's ability to generate revenue and support its operations.

He therefore called on the Speaker of Parliament to direct the Minister for Government Communications to appear before the House and provide an update on the matter.

The Minority Leader said Parliament should be briefed on efforts to recover any encroached lands, improve land administration, and protect assets that are important to the broadcaster's long-term sustainability.

He stressed that GBC's properties are valuable national assets that must be preserved to support the institution's growth and independence.
