Minority demands Anti-Flood Taskforce report amid renewed Accra flooding concerns
The Minority in Parliament has called on government to submit the report of the Anti-Flood Taskforce to the House for examination following the latest flooding incidents that inundated several parts of Accra.
The demand comes as questions mount over the impact of interventions introduced to address the capital’s recurring flood crisis.
According to the Minority, despite the establishment of the taskforce a year ago, residents continue to experience severe flooding with little evidence of significant progress.
The caucus argues that the taskforce was financed with public funds and, therefore, owes Ghanaians accountability on its activities and outcomes.
Adding to the debate, former Works and Housing Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, attributed the persistent flooding to the government’s failure to release funds earmarked for flood control projects.
However, Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, defended the initiative, insisting that the Anti-Flood Taskforce should be given additional time to carry out its mandate and implement long-term solutions to the flooding challenge.
