Minority donates GH¢200,000 to Kantamanto fire victims
The Minority in Parliament, led by Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has extended a heartfelt gesture of support to traders affected by the recent fire outbreak at Kantamanto Market in the Greater Accra Region, donating GH¢200,000 to assist victims in rebuilding their livelihoods.
Accompanied by Minority Whips Frank Annoh-Dompreh and Jerry Ahmed Shaib, the delegation was warmly welcomed by scores of market women and traders, who applauded their show of solidarity.
In his remarks, Afenyo-Markin described the donation as a symbol of empathy and unity during a time of great distress.
He acknowledged that while the amount might not fully compensate for the traders’ losses, it was meant to ease their immediate burden and reassure them that they are not alone.
“We cannot sit back and do nothing while fellow Ghanaians suffer.
This is not the end — we will continue to stand by you,” he assured.
The Minority Leader also called for peace and tolerance among the traders, urging them to avoid political divisiveness.
He emphasised that political power is temporary, but national unity and compassion must always prevail.
A representative of the affected traders, Aikins Boakye Mensah, expressed deep gratitude to the Minority Caucus for their timely intervention.
He pledged that the funds would be used responsibly to support the victims in restarting their businesses.
