The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has issued a caution to the public to be vigilant when eating at parties and social gatherings, following reports of khebabs being laced with cannabis.

A Deputy Commissioner of NACOC, Mr Alex Twum Barimah, disclosed that recent intelligence suggests some individuals have resorted to wrapping cannabis—popularly known in Ghana as “wee”—into khebabs served at events.

Speaking on the Ghana Yensom morning show hosted by Chief Jerry Forson on Accra 100.5 FM on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, Mr. Barimah warned that unsuspecting consumers could suffer serious effects.

“When people eat such kebabs, they may become frenzied and act irrationally without being aware of what they are doing,” he explained, urging the public to be cautious about indiscriminate eating at parties.

He stressed that the illicit use of cannabis remains a criminal offence in Ghana and revealed that NACOC has deployed a task force to clamp down on petty cannabis use across the country.

Mr. Barimah also commended the NACOC Commissioner for his commitment to the fight against narcotics and noted that if previous governments had demonstrated the same level of resolve, Ghana’s anti-narcotics campaign would have been further advanced.
