NADMO begins flood relief distribution as government steps up response
The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) will begin distributing relief items to victims of the recent floods from Saturday, July 4, as part of the government's response to affected communities.
The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, announced the exercise during a briefing at the Jubilee House on Friday, July 3.
He said the distribution forms part of ongoing efforts to assist families displaced by the flooding, which claimed lives and caused extensive damage, particularly in the Greater Accra Region.
According to him, relief supplies have already been delivered to some of the hardest-hit communities, with more affected areas expected to receive assistance in the coming days.
Mr Kwakye Ofosu said the government is committed to ensuring that all flood victims receive the necessary support as recovery efforts continue.
He also urged the public to cooperate with emergency response agencies, observe safety directives and report emergencies where necessary.
"Our government will not rest until every displaced family is housed, every district is restored, and our communities are rebuilt to be stronger and more resilient against future disasters," he said.
Recent heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding across parts of the Greater Accra Region, resulting in deaths, displacement and significant damage to homes and infrastructure. Emergency and relief operations remain ongoing.
