NAiMOS cracks down on illegal mining at Bronikrom-Hwediem; galamsey kingpins arrested
A swift operation by the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAiMOS) has led to the arrest of several suspected galamsey kingpins, including a Burkinabe national, during a targeted strike at Bronikrom, near Hwediem in the Ahafo Region.
The coordinated exercise, conducted in the early hours of Saturday, resulted in the seizure of several vehicles believed to have been used in illegal mining activities.
The task force also demolished makeshift structures erected at the site, which was located barely 10 meters from the main Hwediem–Goaso Highway.
Sources within NAiMOS described the operation as part of a broader effort to clamp down on illegal mining activities threatening the environment and water bodies in the region.
Preliminary reports indicate that the arrested suspects are being processed for further investigation, with officials expected to release additional details in the coming days.
The latest crackdown underscores the government’s continued commitment to combating illegal mining—popularly known as galamsey—which has posed severe environmental and social challenges across several mining communities in Ghana.
Further updates on the Bronikrom-Hwediem operation are expected as NAiMOS continues its surveillance and enforcement efforts in the Ahafo Region and beyond.
