The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has distributed more than 60,000 sanitary pads to female students in seven Senior High Schools across six regions as part of activities marking World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Authority’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Department, is aimed at promoting menstrual health and hygiene while supporting the dignity, confidence, and educational advancement of young girls.

The beneficiary schools included Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO) in Tamale, OLA Girls Senior High School in the Volta Region, Holy Child School in the Central Region, Bole Senior High School, Ahantaman Girls’ Senior High School in the Western Region, T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School in the Ashanti Region, and Adonten Senior High School in the Eastern Region.

The intervention forms part of the NPA’s broader commitment to supporting education and addressing challenges that hinder the academic progress of young women.

The Authority said the programme seeks to ensure that menstruation does not become a barrier to learning, personal development, and the achievement of educational goals.

Speaking during the outreach programme, the Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at the NPA, Maxwell Asare Ampadu, emphasized the importance of menstrual hygiene management in promoting the health and wellbeing of adolescent girls.

He noted that every girl deserves the opportunity to pursue her education with dignity and confidence, without limitations imposed by inadequate access to menstrual hygiene products.

“Menstrual hygiene is a critical aspect of every young woman’s health and wellbeing and should never be a barrier to education, confidence, or success,” he said.

Mr. Ampadu also encouraged the students to maintain good personal hygiene, remain focused on their academic ambitions, and continue striving to achieve their full potential despite challenges they may encounter.

He reaffirmed the NPA’s commitment to supporting educational institutions and implementing social interventions that create lasting impact in communities across the country.

According to the Authority, the sanitary pad distribution exercise reflects its dedication to promoting the welfare of young people and contributing to sustainable development through meaningful community engagement initiatives.
