Nyinahini Catholic SHS teacher arrested over alleged assault on female student
A teacher at Nyinahini Catholic Senior High School has been taken into police custody after a video circulated on social media appeared to show him physically attacking a female student on the school's premises.
The arrest was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Daniel Fenyi, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, June 9.
According to Mr Fenyi, the Ashanti Regional Education Directorate has commenced investigations into the incident and is expected to submit a detailed report to the GES headquarters.
The video, which has attracted widespread public attention, shows the teacher engaged in a confrontation with the student as several bystanders pleaded with him to stop. Witnesses in the footage can be heard reminding the teacher that the student was a girl and urging him to exercise restraint.
Despite the appeals, the teacher allegedly continued the assault, striking the student multiple times before lifting and throwing her to the ground.
In response to the concerns raised by onlookers, the teacher, who appeared visibly upset, reportedly questioned whether the student herself had acted in a manner befitting a young woman.
Authorities have not yet disclosed what triggered the altercation, and school officials are yet to provide details on the circumstances leading to the incident.
The case has sparked public outrage and renewed discussions about student safety and the conduct of educators within educational institutions. The findings of the ongoing investigations are expected to guide any disciplinary measures or legal proceedings that may follow.
