O/R: 3 killed, 9 injured in fresh attack on Odomi community in Nkwanta South
Three people have been confirmed dead and nine others injured following a renewed outbreak of violence in Odomi, a community in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region.
The attack occurred on Thursday evening when unidentified gunmen reportedly entered the community and opened fire, amid the longstanding conflict affecting parts of the municipality.
The injured were taken to St. Joseph Catholic Hospital in Nkwanta for treatment. Hospital sources indicated that one of the victims died while receiving medical care, while two others were brought to the facility dead after reportedly being attacked on their farms.
Authorities have not yet identified those behind the attack, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In response, security personnel, including military officers, have stepped up patrols in the area as part of efforts to maintain order and prevent further violence.
The latest incident comes days after the Oti Regional House of Chiefs announced the establishment of a seven-member committee to help address the protracted conflict in Nkwanta South.
The committee, which is yet to be inaugurated, is expected to engage relevant stakeholders and propose measures aimed at achieving lasting peace in the municipality.
