OSP detains Lawyer Martin Kpebu for alleged obstruction; bail process sparks confusion
Privtae Legal Practitioner lawyer and anti-corruption advocate Martin Kpebu was reportedly taken into custody by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on Wednesday Decmber 3, 2025 over claims that he hindered an officer from performing official duties.
The detention of the outspoken legal practitioner, well known for his criticisms of state institutions, has quickly attracted nationwide attention.
Sources familiar with the incident say Mr. Kpebu was arrested at the OSP headquarters. He was later granted bail, subject to strict conditions, including the submission of documentation proving ownership of a registered landed property and the provision of a surety.
His legal team immediately moved to meet these requirements. But when they returned with the necessary documents, they were told Mr. Kpebu was no longer on the premises, an update that left his lawyers puzzled about his whereabouts and the status of the bail process.
The specifics of the alleged obstruction have not yet been disclosed. Under the OSP Act, however, obstructing an authorised officer in the execution of official duties is considered a serious offence.
Mr. Kpebu’s reported arrest comes at a time when he has been vocal about governance issues and has announced plans to join the list of petitioners calling for the removal of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng—potentially becoming the 17th petition submitted to the President.
The OSP has not yet issued an official statement clarifying the circumstances surrounding his release or confirming his current location.
