The Private Newspaper and Online Publishers Association  (PRINPAG) has entered a new era of leadership following the swearing-in of its newly elected national executives.

At the ceremony, the Association’s new President, David Tamakloe, delivered a speech that set out his vision for strengthening the voice of Ghana’s private and independent press.

In his address, Tamakloe reaffirmed his dedication to safeguarding the aspirations of PRINPAG members while advancing the role of private journalism in Ghana’s democratic space.

Reflecting on the profession’s early days, he paid tribute to the resilience of Ghanaian journalists, who pursued truth-telling with courage and conviction, often under challenging circumstances.

Central to his vision is the empowerment of members.

Mr Tamakloe stressed the need for continuous training and mentorship, noting that “empowered journalists create empowered societies.”

He called on senior practitioners to pass on their skills and wisdom to the younger generation, ensuring continuity and excellence in the profession.

Addressing one of the biggest challenges facing private newspapers, Mr Tamakloe highlighted the precarious financial health of many outlets.

He pledged to engage advertisers, corporate entities, and state institutions to ensure fairer distribution of advertising opportunities.

Advertising, he argued, should be viewed not as charity but as a partnership that recognises the immense value journalists provide to businesses and society.

Looking ahead, Mr Tamakloe promised to create a more inclusive space where all PRINPAG members—whether from large urban outlets or smaller regional papers—can thrive.

He stressed that every journalist deserves visibility and access to opportunities, and pledged to position PRINPAG members as “partners of choice” for advertisers and stakeholders.
