Parliament approves GH¢4.44 billion for local Gov't Ministry

Parliament has unanimously approved GH¢4,443,564,455 to support the operations of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs for the 2025 financial year.
Presenting the budget on behalf of the Minister, Mr. Governs Kwame Agbodza stated that the funds will be used to address key issues, coordinate local Assembly activities, manage waste disposal entities, and implement various initiatives outlined for the year.
During the deliberations, MP for Takoradi Constituency, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah raised concerns about the proposed elevation of the Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs entity from a directorate to an agency, arguing that it could potentially undermine the authority of local chiefs.
However, following further discussions, his concerns were addressed, leading to the unanimous approval of the budget.
