President Mahama begins working visit to UK to deepen economic and diaspora ties
President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in London for a high-level working visit aimed at strengthening economic relations between Ghana and the United Kingdom and engaging the Ghanaian diaspora.
The visit features a royal audience with King Charles III and a breakfast meeting with British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, as part of efforts to deepen long-standing bilateral relations and position Ghana as a key investment destination.
According to a statement issued by the Presidency, Lord Katz MBE from the Royal Household and H.E. Gordon Wetherell, Special Representative of the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), were at the airport to welcome the President on arrival in London.
The visit is expected to focus on boosting foreign direct investment and strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries, while also creating opportunities for Ghanaian entrepreneurs and investors.
As part of his itinerary, President Mahama is scheduled to attend a diaspora town hall meeting hosted by the Ghana High Commission in London, where he will interact with Ghanaians living in the United Kingdom.
He will also open the Ghana-UK Investment Summit at Raffles on Monday morning, an event designed to foster partnerships between Ghanaian businesses and British investors.
In addition, the President will visit the London Stock Exchange, where he is expected to ring the ceremonial bell to mark the start of trading, highlighting Ghana’s increasing participation in global financial markets.
President Mahama will also deliver an address at Chatham House and serve as keynote speaker at the 12th Africa Debate at Guildhall, London.
The visit is expected to conclude on June 3, 2026.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Member of Parliament and Spokesperson to the President as well as Minister for Government Communications, said the engagements form part of efforts to expand Ghana’s international economic footprint and strengthen diaspora relations.
