President John Dramani Mahama has expressed concern about delays and mismanagement in the construction of the Ofankor-Nsawam dual carriage road, one of Ghana’s most important arterial routes.

The president said that while contractors had work to do, proper site management was critical to ensuring that traffic flowed smoothly even as construction continued.

During his inspection of the project, he questioned why the initial loan for the road was exhausted without the project being completed, which had forced government to commit an additional GHS78 million from its own funds. He called for answers on whether the project was poorly estimated or mismanaged.

On financing, President Mahama announced that the project had been moved under government’s Big Push Programme, which had earmarked GHS14 billion this year and GHS30 billion next year for major infrastructure works.

He assured contractors of steady funding but urged them to move faster, using quality materials that would stand the test of time.

Chief Resident Engineer of the Rehabilitation of the Ofankor-Nsawam Road (Dual Carriage) Kwabena Bempong assured the president that the construction would be completed by the second quarter of 2026.
