Ken Agyapong’s camp flags use of party social media platforms for Bawumia’s campaign

The campaign team of Mr. Ken Agyapong, a flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed strong disapproval over what it describes as the unfair use of the party’s official social media handles to promote the candidacy of fromer Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
In a statement signed by campaign spokesperson Kwasi Kwarteng, the team criticised the party leadership for streaming only Dr. Bawumia’s nomination filing, describing the move as a betrayal of the unity the NPP leadership has consistently preached.
“This is yet another example of the deliberate and consistent attempts by party leaders to give him an undue advantage in this primary, just as they did in the previous one,” the statement read.
According to Mr. Kwarteng, such practices contributed to the NPP’s electoral decline under Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, citing a 31% drop in national votes, a 16% decline in northern votes, a 33% fall in southern votes, and minimal support from Zongo communities.
He argued that the party should instead focus on rebuilding unity and restoring confidence among its grassroots ahead of the next general elections.
“Leadership continues to impose the very candidate under whom we suffered these losses, shamelessly projecting him as the ‘establishment choice,’” he said.
The statement further warned that if such practices persist, other candidates may be compelled to “take their destiny into their own hands,” stressing that the grassroots “would not be forced into silence while the future of the party is mortgaged for one individual.”
