NDC’s Godwin Tameklo questions the use of Internally Generated Funds at Ridge Hospital

The Director of Legal Affairs for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Godwin Tameklo, has raised serious concerns about the management of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, popularly known as Ridge Hospital.
In a Facebook post reacting to a report released by the Ministry of Health on the alleged assault of some hospital staff, Mr Tameklo questioned how the facility’s Internally Generated Funds (IGF) are being utilised.
According to him, Ridge Hospital—established during the first term of President John Dramani Mahama—should not be grappling with such basic administrative and operational challenges.
He further queried whether the hospital has a functioning administrator overseeing its affairs.
“This is scary,” Mr Tameklo wrote, stressing that the report exposed what he described as a “deep systemic problem” within the hospital’s operations.
He noted that the report that all key diagnostic imaging equipment at the hospital’s emergency department—including X-ray machines, CT scans, and MRI scanners—are non-functional, forcing patients to seek such services outside the hospital, is worrying.
Mr Tameklo’s concerns add a new dimension to the ongoing conversation about the state of healthcare delivery in Ghana, as the Ridge Hospital remains one of the country’s major referral centres.
