Roads and Highways Minister Kwame Governs Agbodza has given Development (GH) Limited, the contractor responsible for the reconstruction of the 53.35-kilometre Have–Hohoe Road, two months to improve progress on the project or face the termination of its contract.

The Minister directed the contractor to increase physical progress on the project to at least 20 percent within the stipulated period, warning that government will not tolerate further delays on the long-stalled road.

Mr Agbodza issued the ultimatum on Wednesday during an inspection tour of the project as part of his nationwide monitoring exercise covering the Eastern, Volta and Oti regions.

He expressed concern over the slow pace of construction, noting that although work on the road has spanned nearly 14 years, only 13 percent of the revised work programme has been completed.

According to the Minister, the prolonged delay is unacceptable, particularly for a project that forms part of the strategic Eastern Corridor Road network, and stressed that contractors must be held accountable for failing to meet agreed timelines.

He said government remains determined to accelerate the delivery of critical road infrastructure and will not hesitate to terminate contracts where contractors fail to demonstrate the capacity to execute the work.

Mr Agbodza also acknowledged the frustrations of residents and commuters along the corridor, saying they have endured years of unfulfilled promises regarding the completion of the project.

He warned that if the contractor fails to achieve the new performance target within the next two months, the Ministry will conclude that it lacks the capacity to complete the project and take the necessary contractual action.
