Show of force misplaced — Minority slams security exercise in Accra
The Minority in Parliament has criticised the joint show of force by the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service, describing the exercise as a misplaced priority and a waste of state resources.
On Thursday, December 11, 2025, the two security agencies staged a public display of arms and tactical equipment in Accra, saying the exercise was intended to demonstrate their readiness to maintain law and order before, during and after the Christmas festivities.
However, addressing journalists, the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, argued that the display would have been more appropriate at security flashpoints across the country.
He suggested that areas such as Bawku, Gbinyiri and illegal mining zones should have been prioritised to reassure residents of the state’s commitment to restoring peace and tackling insecurity, rather than staging the exercise in the capital.
“What force ostensibly do they want to show on the streets of Accra? Is Accra a flashpoint? If you want to show force and you want to marshal your armoured vehicles and your weapons, Accra is not the street where you marshal this show of force. It is misplaced and they carried this out without consulting Parliament,” he said.
