Tension at Ho Central Market as alleged 'ghetto boys' clash with pavement traders

Tension flared at the Ho Central Market in the Volta Region on Tuesday as individuals alleged to be some "Ghetto Boys" stormed the area, forcefully driving away traders operating along the pavements and destroying their trading tables.
The incident occurred on a busy market day, sparking panic among traders and shoppers.
The operation is believed to be linked to ongoing efforts by the Ho Municipal Assembly to clear traders off the pavements to make way for pedestrian movement.
The Assembly has consistently urged traders to relocate to the main market, where space is said to be available.
However, some traders insist that there are not enough market stalls to accommodate everyone.
Speaking to the media, Market Queen Madam Rejoice Norvixoxo expressed disappointment over the traders' refusal to heed repeated calls to vacate the pavements.
“We’ve tried many times to get them to move into the market, but they refuse to listen.
That is why the enforcement is taking place,” she explained.
While it remains unclear who authorised the group involved in the forceful eviction, many traders are calling on the municipal authorities to intervene and ensure that future enforcement actions are conducted lawfully and peacefully.
The situation has raised concerns over market security and the need for a more structured and transparent approach to decongesting the area.
