Three young men are in the custody of the Ahafo Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service for unlawful possession of firearms and an alleged plan to carry out a robbery.

Johnson Mawutor, 26; Kelvin Ofori, 22; and Mawuli Dogba, the suspects, were arrested in separate but related operations on Saturday, February 22, 2026.

At a press conference on Tuesday, the Ahafo Regional Police Commander, James Annor, said a patrol team intercepted Mawutor and Ofori at about 11:30 PM, along the Ayomso–Goaso road during a routine late-night patrol.

The two were riding an unregistered motorbike and allegedly attempted to flee after switching off the bike’s headlights upon seeing the police.

After a chase, officers arrested the pair and retrieved an AK-47 assault rifle loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition from a bag in their possession.

Further investigations led police to Abrodanho, a suburb of Goaso, where a search at Mawutor’s residence resulted in the arrest of Dogba.

Additional items recovered included two pistols, 30 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 50 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, four Motorola phones, a Contixo F35 drone, a machete and a bayonet knife.

Police said preliminary investigations suggest the suspects, together with another individual identified as Mohammed-Adinan Ussif, who is currently at large, allegedly obtained the weapons earlier that day at Techiman.

The police have launched a manhunt for the remaining suspect and any other persons connected to the case, while assuring residents of continued efforts to maintain security in the region.
