First Lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama, has called for stronger global collaboration to build a peaceful world that safeguards the future of children and offers them opportunities to thrive.

Speaking at the annual prayer service for children held at the Tillman Chapel, Church Center in New York on Monday, September 22, 2025, Mrs Mahama urged nations to prioritise policies and actions that protect the vulnerable and restore hope.

The event coincided with the opening of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

“Children today face immense uncertainty amidst shrinking resources, mistrust in institutions, and conflicts that erode their sense of hope,” she said.

“Yet through prayer and decisive leadership, we can create a world where every child is protected and empowered to achieve their full potential.”

Mrs Mahama lamented the plight of thousands of children in Africa caught up in conflicts and humanitarian crises, stressing that they are often robbed of their childhood and subjected to unimaginable suffering.

“These are precious lives destroyed by circumstances beyond their control. When nations fail to safeguard the home, strengthen communities, and nurture the youth, it is children who suffer the most — losing parents, siblings, homes, and dreams while carrying scars that can last a lifetime,” she emphasised.

She highlighted the work of the Lordina Foundation, her non-governmental organisation (NGO) dedicated to supporting orphans and vulnerable children in Ghana.

According to her, philanthropy and collective support can make a significant difference in transforming lives across the world.

The Annual Prayer Service for Children is facilitated by World Vision International in partnership with the World Council of Churches, Caritas Internationalis, the Episcopal Church, and other faith-based organisations.

In attendance were the Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Administration, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, officials of the Lordina Foundation, and other dignitaries.
