Veep launches book on Ephraim Amu’s legacy

Vice President of Ghana, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has officially launched a book titled Ephraim Amu: Nationalist, Poet, and Theologian (1899 – 1995) at the Osu Eben-Ezer Presbyterian Church Hall in Accra.
The event, attended by diplomats, government officials, traditional leaders, and members of the academic community, celebrated the life and legacy of Dr. Ephraim Amu, a revered Ghanaian composer, nationalist, educator, and theologian.
In her keynote address, the Vice President described Dr. Amu as a cultural icon and visionary leader whose commitment to Ghanaian identity, patriotism, and self-reliance shaped the nation’s consciousness.
She emphasized that the book serves as a guide for future generations, urging Ghanaians to embrace his values of integrity, discipline, and service.
“Dr. Amu was not just a musician—he was a cultural architect.
His masterpiece, Yɛn Ara Asase Ni, is more than just a song; it is a call to action that reminds every Ghanaian that this land is ours to cherish, defend, and develop,” she stated.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also highlighted Amu’s efforts in integrating African culture into education and faith, advocating for the use of indigenous languages and traditions.
She called on Ghanaians to apply his lessons to nation-building, stressing the importance of self-reliance, ethical leadership, and cultural preservation in Ghana’s development.
The Vice President commended the Ephraim Amu Foundation for ensuring his legacy is preserved through research, education, and cultural advocacy.
She urged Ghanaian youth to study his life as a blueprint for national progress.
The book, which details Amu’s contributions to Ghanaian nationalism, music, and theology, was officially launched at the event, marking a renewed commitment to celebrating his impact on the country’s history and future.
