Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II laid to rest; Kampakuya Naa enskinned as regent
The Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama, has been laid to rest following his formal declaration of death in accordance with Dagbon customs and traditions.
The announcement was made after the required traditional rites were performed by the royal drummers and the Sapashiniat the Gbewaa Palace.
Following the burial of the late Yaa Naa, his first son was enskinned as the Kampakuya Naa and Regent of Dagbon.
As Regent, the Kampakuya Naa will oversee the affairs of the Dagbon Kingdom and provide traditional leadership until a new Yaa Naa is selected and enskinned in accordance with customary procedures.
Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama ascended the Dagbon throne in 2019 following the death of his predecessor. During his reign, which lasted until 2026, he was regarded as one of Ghana's prominent traditional rulers.
His reign was marked by efforts to promote peace, unity and development within the Dagbon Kingdom, following years of chieftaincy conflict.
The late Yaa Naa died at the age of 87, bringing to an end a reign that played a significant role in fostering stability and reconciliation in Dagbon.
The traditional succession process is expected to continue in line with Dagbon customs until a new Yaa Naa is selected and enskinned.
