Ashaiman Court jails two friends 10 years for phone robbery

The Ashaiman Circuit Court has sentenced two friends to 10 years’ imprisonment each after finding them guilty of conspiring to commit robbery.
The convicts, Agbevi Ofoe, 33, a commercial motor rider from Mataheko near Afienya, and William Aladin, 26, an electrical engineer from Atadeka in Ashaiman, were convicted for snatching a young woman’s mobile phone.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on March 8, 2025, around 4:40 a.m.
The complainant, Bless Ahiagba, a 22-year-old resident of Achimota, reported that she was returning from Ashaiman-New York when the two men, riding a motorbike with registration number M-21-GR 4123, attacked her near the Ashaiman Night Market.
The accused allegedly parked their motorbike a short distance away, after which one of them rushed at the complainant from behind and snatched her iPhone 7 Plus, valued at GH₵1,500.
They attempted to flee on the motorbike but were pursued by bystanders who had responded to the complainant’s cries for help.
The suspects were caught along the road, and the stolen phone was retrieved.
Police investigations later revealed that Ofoe and Aladin had conspired earlier that morning to engage in a phone-snatching spree in Ashaiman using the motorbike.
On September 4, 2025, the court, presided over by Her Honour Priscilla Sophia Yeboah, convicted the duo of conspiracy to commit robbery and sentenced them to 10 years each in prison.
