B/R: Bono Police recover 5 firearms in shootout, 1 suspect killed
The Bono Regional Police Command has recovered five assorted firearms following an intelligence-led operation targeting notorious robbery gangs in the region. One suspect was killed during the encounter.
According to police, intelligence received on February 11, 2026, indicated that a gang was planning an attack on traders travelling along the Dormaa-Gonokrom Highway. Surveillance teams were immediately deployed to prevent the robbery.

In the early hours of February 12, 2026, officers advancing near a parked motorbike came under gunfire from nearby bushes.
Police returned fire, and a subsequent search at daybreak found a male suspect dead, with an AK47 rifle beside him.
The body has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation, identification, and autopsy.
A further search recovered a sack containing additional weapons and ammunition, including:
- Two Baikal single-barrel guns
- One pump-action gun
- One Beretta pistol loaded with three rounds of 9mm ammunition, plus 34 additional 9mm rounds
- One AK47 rifle loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition, plus 10 additional rounds
- 39 BB cartridges
- One dagger, a mobile phone, a Honda motorbike, a black mask, and a set of talisman

The Bono Regional Police Command assured the public that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the remaining gang members. Citizens are also encouraged to provide credible information that could aid the police in bringing criminals to justice.
Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer for the Bono Regional Police, emphasized that the operation reflects the command’s commitment to enhancing safety and security across the region.
