E/R: Kwahu West Assembly, Chiefs to demolish notorious 'Bobo Shanti pub' over crime surge

The Kwahu West Municipal Assembly, in partnership with traditional leaders in Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region, has announced plans to demolish the infamous Bobo Shanti pub, a hotspot widely linked to rising incidents of crime and violence in the area.
The decision comes in the wake of a disturbing pattern of violent incidents, including multiple stabbings and shootings, which have reportedly claimed the lives of eight individuals in recent months.
Speaking on the matter, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kwahu West, Tamimu Halidu, said the alarming rate of violence in the vicinity has largely been fueled by drug and substance abuse, especially among the youth.
He emphasised that the demolition is a necessary step to restore safety and sanity in the community.
According to Mr. Halidu, the move is part of a broader initiative by the Assembly and local authorities to tackle the root causes of crime and create a more secure environment for residents.
He also appealed to the youth to avoid drug abuse and rather channel their energies into productive ventures.
Additionally, he called on community members, particularly those living near the pub, to support the demolition exercise as a step toward building a safer and more peaceful Nkawkaw.
