Galamsey:Wontumi appears before CID today!

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is scheduled to appear before the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service on Monday, October 6, 2025.
This summons follows a stern warning issued by Dr. Dominic Ayine, the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, on Friday, October 3, 2025. Dr. Ayine stated that Chairman Wontumi would face arrest if he failed to appear, as charges against him have been formally signed.
The investigation centres on Akonta Mining Limited, a company associated with the NPP Chairman, which is under scrutiny for alleged illegal mining activities.
The Attorney-General revealed that the case had been previously delayed due to the concealment of crucial dockets by some elements in the immediate past NPP administration.
Andy Appiah Kubi, Chairman Wontumi's legal representative, confirmed to Accra-based Citi FM on Sunday, October 5, that his client will comply with the invitation.
However, he expressed surprise at the Attorney-General's warning, deeming it unnecessary. Kubi emphasised that his client has consistently cooperated with investigators throughout the process.
Mr Kubi stated, "We will be present at the police CID headquarters in Accra at 10: 00 am as requested.
While we respect and will honour the invitation, I believe the warning accompanying the announcement was unwarranted.
We have no intention of disregarding the invitation."
