After almost ten years in detention, Gregory Afoko, brother of the embattled National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Paul Afoko was accused of the 2015 murder of Adams Mahama, the former Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been granted bail by the Accra High Court.
Presided over by Justice Marie-Louise Simmons, the court set bail at GH₵500,000 with two sureties, one of whom must justify with a landed property.
Afoko is also required to report to the police investigator bi-weekly.
This development marks a significant turn in a prolonged legal battle that began in May 2015 when Mahama suffered a fatal acid attack.
Afoko's initial trial concluded in April 2023 with a hung jury, leading to a retrial.
Notably, during this bail application, the prosecution did not oppose the defense's request, acknowledging sufficient proof that Afoko could meet the bail conditions.
His brother, former NPP National Chairman Paul Afoko, has expressed willingness to stand as surety.
