Kasoa Court jails teacher and students for WASSCE malpractice

The Ofaakor District Magistrate Court at Kasoa in the Central Region has sentenced three individuals to prison after finding them guilty of engaging in examination malpractice during the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The convicts include Samuel Armah, a teacher at Ghana College SHS, and two students—Kwame Oteng Nkansah, a Level 100 student of Accra Technical University, and Amedeka James, a Level 100 student of the University of Ghana.
Prosecutors told the court that Samuel Armah was caught with leaked answers to the Social Studies Paper 1 on his mobile phone.
He was also found dictating the answers to candidates while serving as an invigilator.
In separate incidents, Kwame Oteng Nkansah was arrested for impersonating Quayson Francis Atta, a candidate from Ghana College SHS, while Amedeka James was found impersonating his twin brother, Amedeka Justice, also of Ghana College SHS.
After reviewing the evidence, the court convicted all three.
Samuel Armah was fined 80 penalty units and sentenced to 8 months in prison.
Both Nkansah and James received fines of 80 penalty units each and 6 months’ imprisonment.
Following unannounced visits to examination centres, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon. Seth Sabah Sewornoo-Banini told Class News reporter Samuel Addo that lapses such as congestion and improper seating arrangements had been observed.
He said directives had been issued to address these challenges to ensure the smooth conduct of the remaining papers.
Meanwhile, Municipal Education Director Mr. Frank-Etrue Hayford strongly condemned the malpractice cases and reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the WASSCE in the municipality.
