NE/R: One arrested in foiled mobile money robbery at Kpentoug Junction

A swift community effort supported by security forces on Tuesday evening led to the arrest of a suspect in an attempted mobile money robbery near Kpentoug Junction in Bunkpurugu, North East Region.
The incident occurred between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. when two masked men allegedly attacked a female mobile money agent from Jilig No. 2 in the Jilig Electoral Area.
Eyewitnesses said the victim, who had closed from work and was heading home, was ambushed by the robbers, who blocked her path and tried to snatch her bag containing cash.
Despite being physically assaulted, the woman resisted and refused to let go of the bag.
Her determination, coupled with the timely intervention of a passing tricycle (Motor King) driver—who flashed his lights and rushed towards the scene—forced the assailants to flee.
The tricycle driver pursued the suspects but was reportedly threatened by them.
He quickly alerted others, prompting a coordinated chase involving community members, police, and military personnel.
The pursuit stretched from Kpentoug Junction to Nyamwai, where residents managed to intercept and apprehend one suspect.
The second suspect, however, escaped and remains at large.
The arrested suspect is now in police custody, and a manhunt is ongoing for the fugitive.
