NE/R: Police commence investigation into armed attack, murder of GIS officer at Gbintiri checkpoint
The North East Regional Police Command has commenced investigation into an armed attack on two personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) at Gbintiri, near Nalerigu.
Police recalled that about 1 AM on Friday, October 3, 2025, they received information that unknown gunmen had attacked two immigration service officers who were on duty at the Gbintiri Inland checkpoint. Both officers sustained gunshot wounds. Sadly, one of the officers died as a result, while the other one was immediately sent to the hospital for medical attention.
The armed men took away a motorbike and a bag belonging to the officers.
Police retrieved a service rifle which was being used by the officers at the checkpoint.
Police in a statement assured the public that there was a manhunt for the perpetrators of "this heinous crime to face the full rigours of the law".
Police appealled to the public to assist them with any information on the culprits to aid investigation.
