Ofankor domestic violence viral video: John Lamptey, 2 others remanded into police custody after arraignment
The Magistrate Court at the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service has remanded John Odartey Lamptey, alias Nii Adjei into police custody.
Two other accused persons, Louis Odartey Lamptey and Grace Kushie Lamptey, shared the same fate.
John was captured in a viral video physically assaulting a woman believed to be his wife. She was deprived of clothes and in the full glare of onlookers on the shared compound of their Ofankor residential property. Her incessant pleas for mercy were not heeded.
John Lamptey was charged with physical assault, contrary to Sections 1(b)(i) and 3(2) of the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732).
Louis Odartey Lamptey and Grace Kushie Lamptey were also charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, to wit "threat of harm" contrary to Sections 23(1) and 74 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), since they attempted attacking a female tenant, suspecting her of recording and circulating the disturbing viral video.
All three are to reappear before the court on December 3, 2025.
The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has emphasised the victim of the assault has not been found, urging her or anyone with credible information on her whereabouts to contact the nearest police station
"We assure the public that all information provided will be treated with the utmost confidentiality," police added.
