Police arrest 10 suspects in cyber fraud raid at Mataheko-Afienya
The Tema Regional Police Command, through the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate, has arrested 10 suspects in connection with internet-related fraudulent activities at Mataheko-Afienya, Tema, following an intelligence-led operation on 3rd July 2026.
The operation also led to the rescue of nine (9) Nigerian nationals who police say were victims of human trafficking and exploitation.
Briefing the media, Commissioner of Police (COP) Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, said the suspects were picked up at an apartment suspected to be used as an operational base for cyber-enabled fraud.
The suspects have been identified as Collins Francis Olayi Ojo, Matthew Balogun, Jahid Bello, Abdul Rahman Nufizi, Talent Sinivie, Preye Morrison, Lawal Abdul Aziz, David Ogobbona, Gift Prince and Kingsley Honest.
According to COP Donkor, preliminary investigations established that Collins Francis Olayi Ojo, described as the coordinator and leader of the group, allegedly facilitated the movement of the nine Nigerians from Nigeria to Ghana by road.
He is accused of subjecting them to cyber-enabled fraudulent activities under his direction.
“The nine individuals were identified as victims of human trafficking and exploitation. They have been rescued and placed at a safe location for further action,” COP Donkor stated.
A search of the premises led to the retrieval of 28 laptop computers and 9 mobile phones.
All the devices have been secured for digital forensic examination.
Suspect Collins Francis Olayi Ojo has since been put before the Accra High Court and remanded into police custody.
COP Donkor said investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest any other persons connected to the syndicate.
She reaffirmed the Police Service’s commitment to protecting citizens, safeguarding property, and upholding the rule of law across the country.
The Tema Regional Command and CID continue to intensify operations targeting human trafficking and cybercrime networks in the region.
