Police arrest suspect in Gomoa Dabanyin robbery attempt

The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with a robbery incident at Gomoa Dabanyin in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
According to the police, the incident occurred on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, around 7:30 p.m. when two men, under the pretext of purchasing airtime, attacked a mobile money vendor and snatched her bag containing cash.
In an attempt to escape, one of the suspects, who was armed with a gun, fired several shots indiscriminately, apparently to scare the victim.
However, the woman’s cries for help drew the attention of community members, who managed to apprehend one of the suspects, identified as Awudu Ibrahim.
The mob nearly assaulted the suspect, but the timely intervention of the Gomoa Dominase District Police patrol team ensured his re-arrest and rescue.
A loaded single-barrel gun and the victim’s bag, containing an unspecified amount of money, were retrieved.
Police say the suspect is in custody, assisting with investigations, while efforts are underway to arrest the other suspect, who managed to flee the scene.
The Central East Regional Police Command commended the patrol team for their swift action and also praised residents for their cooperation in apprehending the suspect.
DSP Victor Kofi Dosoo, Head of Public Affairs for the Central East Regional Police, assured the public that the police remain committed to clamping down on crime and ensuring safer communities.
