An Accra High Court has remanded the Founder and Leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International, Reverend Isaac Owusu-Bempah, into Police custody.

Three others who were arrested together with the pastor have also been remanded by the court.

The three are Michael Boateng, Frederick Ohene and Nathaniel Agyekum. Two other suspects are on the run and the Police are pursuing them.

Rev Owusu Bempah, and his accomplices were together charged with six counts.

They all pleaded not guilty to the charges including threatening to kill Patricia Oduro Koranteng, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.

Rev Owusu Bempah and one other were charged with two counts of Offensive Conduct Conducive to the breach of peace and threat of death, while the remaining were also charged with assault on a public officer.

Though their lawyers led by Lawyer Garry Nimako Marfo prayed for the accused persons to be granted bail, prosecution led by Chief Inspector Dennis Terkpetey opposed the bail.

It was the case of the prosecution that two of the police officers they assaulted are still on admission at the hospital.

The court presided over by Her Honour Afia Owusua Appiah dismissed the application for bail to allow prosecution enough time to investigate the case since they were only arrested yesterday.

The accused persons were subsequently remanded into Police custody to reappear on September 20.

Background

The suspects were arrested and detained over the creation and circulation of multiple videos containing threats, the brandishing of a weapon and the assault of some police personnel.

The Police said after critically analyzing the said videos based on intelligence gathered, they embarked on an operation on Sunday, 12 September 2021 at the premises of the church to arrest the suspects but some members of the church believed to have been under the direction of Rev Bempah assaulted some Police officers.

The injured Police personnel have received treatment and are responding to treatment the Police said.

The Police have assured that impartial investigations will continue.
