Two young men have been arrested by the police at the Ashaiman Roundabout after they were found in possession of a quantity of automobile spare parts suspected to have been stolen.

The suspects, identified as John Atsu and Puplampu Jonathan, were arrested on June 16, 2026, at about 2:55 AM by a police patrol team led by Chief Inspector Prosper K. Amponsah.

According to police reports, the patrol team was on its routine night duty when officers intercepted a taxi cab loaded with several automobile parts at a section of the Ashaiman Roundabout. A search conducted on the vehicle revealed a box containing clutch boosters, two boxes of fuel injectors, two boxes of mounting top lights, and a pair of headlights.

When questioned about ownership and documentation covering the items, the suspects were unable to provide any satisfactory explanation. Police noted that their conduct and responses raised suspicion that the items may have been stolen.

The exhibits have since been retained by the police for further investigations, while photographs of the recovered items have been taken as evidence.

The suspects have been cautioned and their statements obtained separately. They remain in police custody assisting with investigations.

Police have also issued statement forms to the arresting officers to submit detailed accounts of the operation.

Investigators are expected to visit the crime scene and pursue leads to identify and arrest other persons who may be connected to the suspected theft and possession of the recovered items.

Meanwhile, police are urging members of the public with information relating to the ownership of the recovered automobile parts to assist with ongoing investigations.
