Three arrested for possession of restricted drugs and firearm in Northern Region

The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested three individuals for unlawful possession of restricted pharmaceutical drugs and a firearm near Diare, a suburb of Savelugu, in the Northern Region.
The suspects—Jabuni S. Mohammed, Alidu Abdul Samed, and Abdul Aziz—were apprehended on Sunday, August 3, 2025, during a routine night patrol by police along the Tamale–Bolgatanga highway.
According to police reports, Jabuni, who was driving a Nissan Hardbody pick-up with registration number GN 2812–20, failed to stop at a checkpoint at Diare, prompting officers to give chase.
He later abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee into nearby bushes but was quickly arrested.
A search of the abandoned vehicle uncovered a deflated spare tyre containing 1,399 blister packs of Tafrodol 120mg, a restricted drug, and a loaded pistol hidden in the headrest.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Alidu Abdul Samed and Abdul Aziz, who were riding an unregistered motorbike and believed to be on their way to meet Jabuni.
All three suspects are currently in police custody and will be arraigned in court. Police investigations are ongoing.
