Two arrested over alleged plot to assassinate chief of Akyem Kwabeng

The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals for allegedly conspiring to assassinate Daasebre Ayimadu Kantamanto II, Chief of Akyem Kwabeng and Gyasehene of the Akyem Abuakwa State.
According to a police statement, on October 11, 2025, at about 10:00 a.m., the Command received credible intelligence indicating that a group was planning to eliminate the Chief ahead of his first Royal Durbar, scheduled for October 17, 2025, at Akyem Kwabeng.
Acting on the intelligence, a team from the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) launched a covert operation on October 12, 2025, to infiltrate the suspected group.
During the operation, Emelia Akua Asor, aged 47, allegedly offered GH₵50,000.00 to undercover officers to carry out the assassination of both the Chief and another woman, believed to be the newly appointed Queen Mother of Akyem Kwabeng.
Investigations further revealed that Emelia Akua Asor instructed her accomplice, Butuakwa Seth, aged 48, to lead the officers to Akyem Kwabeng to identify the Chief and the woman’s residence.
Seth reportedly showed the officers both locations and provided them with a photograph of the Chief.
The suspects also promised to pay an additional GH₵50,000.00 upon successful completion of the planned killing.
Both Emelia Akua Asor and Butuakwa Seth were subsequently arrested and are in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations.
Police say further updates on the case will be provided in due course.
Photographs of the suspects and the seized cash have been attached as exhibits.
